Blackjack - introduction

The fundamental rules of the game Blackjack are rather straightforward and simple to understand. Blackjack is found to be a favorite game of many gamblers, as it has one of the best rates of payout and gives the opportunity to control – let it be even minimized – players’ chances for success.

The general overview
It is a card game, in Blackjack each player has the chance to compete one-on-one with casino dealer. The basic goal of the game is to get a hand containing 21 points, or beating the hand of the dealer, coming possibly close to 21 without busting (going over).

If you have an ace and a ten as the first cards, that is “a natural” 21 or “blackjack”. It always beats the hand with 21, which value is made by more than the initial 2 cards.

Picture cards are counted as 10, the cards from 2 to 10 are counted according to their face value; an ace can be equal either to 1 or to 11. There is a notion of the "hard hand", the one containing no ace, or the one containing an ace which can just be equal to 1, without busting. The dealer's ace is always equal to 11.

Game terminology
"Hit" means taking another card
"Stand" means to remain with the cards that you have
"Double Down" presupposes only giving you just one more card, and doubling your bet
"Split" means dividing your pair into 2 hands – your first wager is to be placed on the first hand, the second wager with the same value should be placed on another hand.
"Insurance" means: If at that particular table the insurance is available, and the dealer is showing an ace, some casinos can give you an option to place a side-bet, which is called “insurance” in order to counter the dealer’s chance to have Blackjack.
